As debut singles go, ‘Sugar’ is a rather intoxicating and euphoric offering. Evoking the vaporous, sweaty atmospheres of an uplifting, bubbly club night, the record sees young voyager Logan Webb sharing an empowering message of freedom and liberation, especially from a cultural perspective. Fiercely championing a proud Queer identity, the Preston-based creative embraces a rather bold outlook, something that’s plenty obvious in ‘Sugar’.
It all works very well: from the gentle, buoyant yet striking pop-dance production – courtesy of Logan himself – to the honey-like, fashionable songwriting and smooth melodies. It’s almost irresistible, although we’d recommend reserving the listening experience for evening/nighttime – when one can fully appreciate the piece’s sultry, majestic and charming character. It’s important to note that this is not Webb’s first rodeo, as he’s kickstarting a brand-new project.
At just 20 years old, the British artist appears fully committed to his newly-found passionate persona, namely inspired by attending a Troye Sivan show in Manchester. Delving into the meaning behind the single, he explains: “‘Sugar’ is everything I want to embody as a human, it’s sweet, it’s hot, it’s open. I think my biggest inspiration came from seeing Troye Sivan live in Manchester. I desperately wanted to recreate that feeling of being able to dance, be sweaty, be proud of my sexuality and my body all from a judgement-free perspective.”
