‘Normal’ is the sugary-sweet new single from Little Lore, the alter-ego of London-based Americana singer/songwriter Tricia Duffy. It’s her first release of 2023 so far and was written when Duffy was stuck in her bedroom with Covid. Working alongside producer and multi-instrumentalist Oli Deakin, and Morgan Karabel on drums, Little Lore has brewed up a wonderfully energetic and seriously catchy little tune. That guitar is simply hypnotising, and Duffy’s vocal performance is superb, heartfelt, and deeply authentic.
In reference to the song’s lyrics, Duffy says that she’s “a huge fan of Jeanette Winterson’s writing. Her memoir is called ‘Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal’ and the title really resonated with me.” With strong feelings about how, as a society, we’ve become normalised to accept certain things, Little Lore is on a mission to break free from the norms.
I’m not going to lie…I can’t get ‘Normal’ out of my head. It’s so ridiculously catchy and perfectly pieced together. I’m in love with Tricia Duffy’s vocals too – there’s a genuineness to them that is inescapable. I just hope we get to hear from Little Lore again this year. We’ll be here patiently waiting.
