Summer is coming, and as you all know, it’s time to refresh our playlists. Light and playful vibes are in order, catapulting us on sunny beaches and laidback evening parties. Stating how his music was recently inspired by “surfy guitars”, Linuss shares the perfect candidate for those aforementioned playlists: ‘Passcode’ is as soulful, relaxed and refreshing as it could be, still managing to exude a certain sentimental flair. Blending steady, slow-paced beats with chorused and jangling guitars, the Los Angeles talent manages to build the perfect framework for his own glorious vocals, sounding both luscious and dynamic in the process.
Of course, Linuss’s artistic prowess is certainly not a surprise. Boasting a former militancy in indie outfit Vues, the American guitarist, singer and songwriter debuted his solo project only last year, having released 4 singles in 2023 alone. Impressive productivity – as you would imagine, he’s building up for an upcoming album, ‘Signes’.
Lyrically, ‘Passcode’ focuses on the importance of self-worth and self-respect, declined through the artist’s own personal experience. As Linuss explains: “Funny enough I didn’t mean to tell a first-hand personal story (I never do), but in retrospect it was mostly an accurate picture of my life at the time. Basically feeling like I’d given everything I had to please someone I cared about deeply, but nothing I did was ever enough to make this person happy. You can imagine how it played out from there. Pretty much a hard lesson on the inputs and outputs of codependency and low self-worth.”
