The record is nuanced and meaningful in its lyricism, yet club-ready and hard-hitting from a sonic standpoint. Built on EDM and Garage influences, the single conveys a certain ‘jungle’ vibe, making it extremely contemporary and relatable.
Self-produced by lightsonlover himself, the record benefitted from additional processing by Jeremy Hagry of Dune Mixing and Mastering, putting the finishing touches to what Ablitt had started. Ryan, hailing from Adelaide, Australia, adopted the moniker back in 2017, first performing as a band but now fully embracing the solo outfit dimension. It works well: ‘This Feeling’ is a good match for his evocative and electrifying vocals, and a completely electronic production ensures independence from other collaborators.
Lyrically, the song is surprisingly deep, with Ablitt embarking on an exploration of what ‘believing’ means, especially in a religious context. As he explains: “It touches on the idea of being jealous of those who follow a religious faith being able to have their religion to fall back on when going through tough situations as someone who doesn’t follow that and can’t make that make sense.”
