Following up on a poignant and relatable record such as ‘My Father’ must not have been easy. The thing is, if you knew Lewis Knaggs, you’d realize how malleable and adaptable his artistry is, switching mood and songwriting stylings to adapt to his introspective storytelling. Naturally, Knaggs just unveiled his latest effort, a stunning slice of indie-pop euphoria, hidden so well inside a charismatic lyrical nugget. ‘Third Eye’ is everything we wished for; uplifting, punchy and unapologetically fierce, the record drives past any doubts and reserves, showcasing the project for what it truly is: an outlet for Knaggs’ musical magnitude.
Based in North London, Lewis was able to absorb cultural references from an early age, thanks to a rather eclectic family. With a Welsh mother and an American father, he delved into the best the Atlantic artistic sphere has to offer, discovering the many nuances of storytelling.
‘Third Eye’ seems a fitting resolution, serving as a reminder of the many lessons learnt in the past. Wanting to highlight the future while celebrating what’s been, Lewis makes his latest single an absolute gem, particularly enriched by the dynamic character of his own vocals.
Describing the inspiration behind the song, Knaggs explains: “Third Eye’ is about trying to hold onto the memories, advice and words of wisdom given to me over the years as I progress through life, whether that may be words shared with me by close friends & family, or from loved ones that have passed. The song originally came into existence with the memory of my grandfather, he was a legend who greatly influenced my life and provided a lot of advice.”
