Leveller Shares Latest Effort ‘Fair Isle Automatic’

The frequent reader will be aware of our crush for everything that sounds retro. New wave, synth-pop, shoegaze: that’s what we thrive in. Naturally, we couldn’t overlook Leveller’s debut release, ‘Fair Isle Automatic’, a punchy, sleazy and haunting slice of post-punk energy, channelling everything from The Cure to Joy Division, from Siouzie to St. Vincent. The result is a record that feels modern while drenched in tradition.

It is clear what Leveller’s cultural references are, but it is even more impressive how he plays with them, borrowing here and there to build his own musical formula, something that pays off greatly in ‘Fair Isle Automatic’. Not to mention, the songwriting still manages to be catchy and relatable, potentially widening the scope of the track.

Anticipating more music to come later this year, ‘Fair Isle Automatic’ humanizes a lighthouse as a metaphor for the inner workings of everyday relationships.
