Letters From Suburbia Turns Grievances Into Pop-Punk Classic with ‘POKER NIGHT’

Initially written as a joke song, ‘POKER NIGHT’ is a tune that its creator never expected to receive the attention it has. Courtesy of Letters From Suburbia, the musical project of American artist Jesse D. Pennington, it’s a track that turns a night of frustration at a cancelled poker game into an unexpected hit. “My friends and neighbours bailed on a poker night I was looking forward to, so instead, I stayed up all night and wrote this song about how annoyed I was”.

Sonically inspired by the likes of Blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World, ‘POKER NIGHT’ is a classic helping of punk and skater rock that delivers passionate guitar riffs and a sense of playful defiance. With a raw energy and rebellious spirit, Jesse name-drops all those who let him down, turning his grievances into a high-octane musical middle finger that is simply irresistible.

Through his Letters From Suburbia project, Pennington frames each tune he creates as a letter about modern suburban life, exploring the daily grind and the relentless struggle against time.

He previously dived into the American healthcare system with a smashing track called ‘MEDICAL BOOMERANG’, and you can jam and read our review of it here
