It doesn’t happen every day to hear such a forward-thinking and kaleidoscopic record. Holy B‘s latest EP, ‘Adventures in Lo-Fi – Vol. 3’, is a fascinating blend of experimental hip-hop and electronica that takes the listener on a journey to unfamiliar places. The Berlin-based musician, funk bass player and producer has created a record that is futuristic, edgy, and undeniably cool. Delving into it, one can easily understand the shaping form of the EP: a mix of mangled, pitched-down samples, veiled organic instruments, and a flair for synthetic sound design.
Throughout the EP, there are moments that remind the listener of vaporwave, with its eclectic blend of influences that range from retro-futuristic to contemporary. Holy B’s use of samples and glitchy, abstract electronic beats is masterful, really showcasing his worth as a producer. The tracks are built around intricate rhythms and noisy vocals, with a layer of experimental electronica that adds a sense of depth and complexity to the music.
