Often, you can tell a good project apart from its first notes: if talent and attitude are there, the rest will come. Take Archways, for instance; the London residents are very young actors in the scene, having debuted only in January this year. And still, even with just a couple of singles out, they are conquering listeners far and wide, showcasing a sound that borders indie and poppy and charming lyricism.
Of course, their sound is guitar-driven, at least for now, but in a general sense, they open up their arrangements by offering wide, airy compositions that greatly convey their heartfelt lyrical themes. It is relatable material, without instrumental lust: Archways would just like to tell you a story, or communicate a feeling.
‘Closure’ is the British group’s latest single, released earlier this summer. In it, the young musicians explore their mellow side, building a heart-wrenching ballad with taste and criteria. Resembling something that early Coldplay could be writing, the track relies on poignant piano, tame guitars and steady drums, providing the perfect backdrop for Archways’ lead vocals to shine in all their perfection.
Overall, a very interesting record. Looking forward to hearing more!
