We are not going to lie: listening to ‘Little Mountain Road’ is a rather magical experience. The sonic matter is incredibly unique and unfiltered, with Californian duo L’ESPIRAL putting their eclectic and dreamy sonic formula on full display. A blend of alt-folk elegance, ethereal soundscapes and orchestral tones, plus a hint of cinematic intensity: everything points towards a masterpiece, a listening experience that’s both striking and poignant, meaningful and tender.
‘Little Mountain Road’ is all of that and more. Lost between Zoë Bleu’s nuanced, vibrant lyricism and Reggie Debris’ expansive production, the record is equally complex on its lyrical side, with Bleu developing a philosophical take on love lost, asking herself where love ends up once it’s discarded – does it continue floating in the ether? Is love its own entity?
As she explains, “‘Little Mountain Road’ is a song about disembodied love. When two people fall in love, their bond creates a new world, a new entity. Something is born from the connection, bursting into being like a star. And when that love is abandoned, what happens then to the world it birthed?”
