We enjoyed listening to ‘Towards the Light’ for a while, before putting pen to paper. Playing it as a background soundtrack, we felt almost hypnotised by its melancholic and evocative character. You could say it is a gateway to escapism; life’s getting too much? Dive into the record and forget about your problems, even for a mere single hour. That’s the magic of Les Arrivants: opening up new, undiscovered frontiers.
A multinational outfit, Les Arrivants delves into world music with a strong Middle Eastern flavouring, crafting poignant and authentic compositions with an eclectic instrumental lineup. Amichai Ben Shalev (bandoneon), Abdul-Wahab Kayyali (oud), and Hamin Honari (tombak, daf and percussion) form the core trio of the project, writing timeless material with a strong cathartic energy.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, they explain: “The music builds on previously explored themes – nostalgia, happiness, comfort, confusion, unresolved tension, inconsolable grief, homage to new places and new friends – and adds “statelessness,” hope and triumph.”
