It took us a while to really grasp the magnitude of Leo Pesci’s latest album, ‘Impolite’. We had it as a sonic background for a while before eventually making the timid, yet hopeful choice of laying down some words. You see, ‘Impolite’ is one of those records that need to be experienced, more than narrated. Upon its neo-soul tinges and jazz interpolations, the album exudes a highly bold and immersive character, wrapping the listeners into a triumph of instrumental prowess and virtuoso-style solos.
We are big fans of it: our name is Mesmerized, after all. ‘Impolite’ completely hypnotized us, causing us to get lost in Pesci’s long piano improvisations and synth-powered incursions. It is all so eclectic: from the many bebop references to the irresistible hip-hop grooves, Leo seems determined to explore the contemporary jazz scene in its entirety, a scene that’s long been infused with straight rhythms and organic, nuanced rap features.
Based in the UK yet originally from Naples, Pesci aims to honour his roots while embracing global culture. In fact, ‘Impolite’ features a wide list of collaborators, the likes of Jackson Mathod, John Swana, Jay Phelps and Dylan Jones, among others.
