Chicago-born guitarist Jeff Liberman is an immensely intriguing artist. Between 1975 and 1978, Jeff self-released three albums on his own label which became among the first private pressings to gain recognition amongst psych collectors in the 80s. He became a sensation around his home city and, while balancing work and a family, created a life deeply rooted in both his creative drive and his commitments.
Fast forward nearly fifty years and, with his nineteenth (to my count) album, Jeff is still crafting forward-thinking and inventive rock music that resonates. Titled ‘The Windy City’, we’ll be honing in on the record’s title track, a sonically and thematically powerful tune that sparks a conversation around inner city violence and crime.
Intense yet melodic and highly catchy, it’s not long before Liberman’s guitar-playing chops are on full display. Then, with his raspy and commanding vocals, he reaches out directly to the listener to make them feel the true horrors of the harsh realities that inspired the song.
Accompanying Jeff’s single is a remarkable lyric video taking viewers on a grim and dangerous journey through dark streets and crime-ridden alleyways. It’s gripping and pulls no punches, and we are honoured to share it with you today!
