Upon delving into ‘Phase One’, we were pleasantly surprised. An eclectic, dynamic and edgy EP, the record marks the latest effort by Denmark-based outfit leeek. Hailing from Aarhus, the talented quartet champions a highly modern and fresh take on indie and dream-pop. The final result is material that’s hypnotising, groovy and quite psychedelic. ‘Time’s Up’ is our favourite track.
Intensively fierce and dance-inducing, the production behind it it’s really good. A firm and luscious bass line carries tight drums and synth arpeggios over the moon, wrapping the listeners into ethereal euphoria and catchy songwriting. ‘Poison’ is instead way more evocative, and we’d say also less edgy, if you will. The track focuses on a more ‘evocative-based approach, which will indeed appeal to some of the most pop-inclined peeps in leeek’s extensive fanbase.
Opener ‘Lost’ is rather anthemic in its lyricism, packed with a great chorus and honey-like melodies. What’s not to like? There’s something for everyone in ‘Phase One’ – one just has to be bold enough to explore it with courage.
