Lee Switzer-Woolf is back! The keen reader might remember us writing about some of his releases last year, the likes of ‘Ototoxin’ and ‘Annihilation Signals’. Characterised by an evocative sound steeped in folktronica and meaningful lyricism, the project has so far conquered us, also thanks to Switzer-Woolf’s raw and three-dimensional vocals.
‘Flying Saucer Working Party’ sees Lee returning with new music in 2024, for what is a welcome addition to a very hot summer. He helps us cool it down, sharing a hazy and gloomy slice of electronica, icy and dark, taking a step back from the more malleable sound we knew him for. Taking a detour through new wave and leftfield territories, Switzer-Woolf writes a gem that’s industrial and robotic in its sonic livery, yet heart-crushing and dramatic in its lyricism.
Part of a double single which will be unveiled in full in September, ‘Flying Saucer Working Party’ signals the constant evolution of the Reading-based musician. Speaking about the record, he explains: “It is an ode to eternal struggles with normalcy and domesticity. It is about the promise of abduction from the constraints of the mundane, the idea of something otherworldly and how we weigh that against our feelings of insignificance in the world.”
