Sometimes, they come back! In the case of Leah Martin-Brown, that means leaping into a solo project, one that was eagerly awaited. Having made waves with her rock outfit Evol Wolks – covered extensively in our publication – the American trailblazer now jumps into fiercer territories, unveiling her debut single, ‘Boys’. The first thing to notice here is the track’s strong glam rock vibe, a vintage throwback to the 80s with noisy and luscious guitar tones and industrial, machine-powered drums.
In fact, there’s a little bit of Prince in it, but also a bit of Def Leppard. Showcasing her eclecticism, Martin-Brown finds the perfect sonic settings for her majestic, anthemic and electrifying vocals, here layered into massive-sounding harmonies and catchy melodies. ‘Boys’ is a fantastic debut effort by Leah, an entry ticket to her artistic maturity.
A collaboration with renowned producers Mutt Lange and Tony Nilsson, the record ends up being pretty radiophonic, finding its home in eclectic, heavy pop territories. As Martn-Brown explains: “This song is a heavy pop anthem with attitude, a true reflection of the album’s sound, and working with Mutt Lange and Tony Nilsson has been an absolute dream come true.”
