Crowning her multidisciplinary artistic career, Leah Jane unveils a compelling EP, ‘Nottingham Drive’, a record that showcases all of the songwriting prowess and vocal glory the Toronto-based songstress has to offer. Collecting past singles and a brand new track – ‘The Fury’ – the EP draws Jane’s sonic manifesto: from dreamy, ethereal textures to anthemic hooks, the record finds its main qualities in the relatability and poignancy of its songs.
Rather introspective and personal, ‘Nottingham Drive’ seeks to dig deep into Leah’s childhood memories, finding a common theme in the resilience needed to evolve and grow in today’s complex world. ‘The Fury’ – here taking centre stage as a lead single – suggests Jane’s difficulty in dealing with societal expectations. Judging by what we are hearing so far, it’s fair to say that Jane has fully matched ours – she certainly has a special gift for music-making.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Nottingham Drive’, she explains: “Nottingham Drive was the street where I grew up in St. John’s, and I have nothing but fond memories of that place. I’m grateful for that. I had the chance to write these songs in comforting spaces, surrounded by some of my closest friends, and delve into the stories behind them, creating even more cherished moments.”
