Experiencing ‘Ordinary Love’ feels like walking in a dark, haunting tunnel in Eastern Europe – although Germany and the Nordics will do too. That’s the vibe behind the record, a nugget of darkwave glory wrapped into lo-fi aural energy and dynamic vocals. Pretty contemporary and fashionable, the single is the latest effort by French creative Le Gassique.
Driving an eclectic project, the talented musician constantly oscillates between new wave, post-punk and dark wave, fully steeped in retro flair and a decadent, melancholic feeling. From a chronological standpoint, Le Gassique might be stuck in the 80s; yet, it’s not a disadvantage, but rather a quality. Perhaps it makes him a timeless feature in an ever-changing musical landscape.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Ordinary Love’, the French troubadour explains: “Keeping in the vein of previous song “Unglory”, this has a more upbeat, underground, synth, dirty disco vibe to it. Something you can dance and chant to in the shadows of the club. It still has an 80s post-punk aesthetic that the established audience will resonate with.”
