Emerging from Canada, Ottawa, Laughing In Slow Motion are one of those bands whose lyricism is drenched in wisdom, personal experience and constructive thoughts, stemming from a rather convoluted history as a musical outfit. It is a good thing: in a world of young popstars, one might question whether their life baggage is enough to deliver material that’s not cheesy and cliches. Instead, Laughing In Slow Motion drink from the personal struggle fountain, writing ‘CABIN FEVER’ – their latest single – in response to a series of challenges encountered during the pandemic. For instance, the social withdrawal we all had to endure.
The band – Kiel Burwell (Vocals/Guitar), Alex Tait (Guitar), Jason Norman (Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals), and Matthew Stolarik (Drums) – formed in late 2019 and began producing their own music. However, due to the pandemic, they weren’t able to play shows until 2022. Since then, they’ve been playing shows across Canada and have even been looking into planning a 2023 tour in Latin America.
‘CABIN FEVER’ was written by Burwell during the first lockdown of 2020. Burwell had been reading up on the philosophy of Stoicism, which holds that the practice of virtue is the path to happiness. This inspired him to write a song about remaining true to oneself and persevering through life’s struggles. The results are convincing: the track channels nostalgia, inner reflection and intimacy, offering a very welcome artistic pick-up for our broken personalities.
