Delving into ‘Vanity City’ is a real pleasure. The record contains nuggets of nostalgia, oscillating between luscious French soul from the 70s to disco and new wave influences. It’s elegant: the sonic profiles are extremely curated, with irresistible retro synths paired with groovy basslines and distorted guitar work. Honestly, we are mighty impressed. Late TV have written a real masterpiece, a record that feels contemporary, yet stuck in the past. The occasional sax solo is a fantastic addition to an already cathartic formula.
Emerging from London, Late TV empower ‘Vanity City’ as their debut album – and what an album! Crucially, for now, the record is exclusively available as a limited edition 180mg splatter LP and as a download via Bandcamp.
As the group explains: “Settle into a black leather Le Corbusier chair, ideally situated next to a balcony window behind which high-rise lights twinkle across the horizon, and take in ‘Vanity City’.” A metaphor that works really well in embodying the sense of nostalgia and retro sleaze one feels when approaching the record. Honestly, a bloody good album.
