LAB RAT Shares Rebellious Gem ‘Exit Path’

We appreciate the contrast between meaningful, deep lyricism and fierce, punk-flavoured production. ‘Exit Path’ is a rather complex single, at least in its underlying ethos. Penned by Australia-based creative LAB RAT, the song deals with the artist’s history of drug abuse and poor mental health. Eventually, we get to the bottom of it, which non-surprisingly relates to the need to be “comfortable in your own skin”

A rather powerful realization, here declined in musical form in a fresh and contemporary way. Dynamic, sleazy and rebellious, ‘Exit Path’ navigates hip-hop and punk territories with a neutral, mainstream character, still managing to pack tons of evocative lyricism and raw vocals into it. Jumping from rap flow to suing choruses, the record is an absolute belter. Electrifying.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Exit Path’, LAB RAT explains: “It deals with themes of childhood trauma, depression and the ongoing problems that will haunt you through adulthood. It’s a personal story about using drugs as a coping mechanism to keep suicidal tendencies, bad memories and dark thoughts from knocking at your door.”
