Say what you will, but behind ‘Mind Games’ there’s definitely a great deal of creative research. While its production quality is pretty lo-fi – yet still charming and vibrant – the songwriting and the overall compositional formula are what’s relevant here. A long time in the making, the album is the result of extensive collaborative work.
Behind it, we find Spanish outfit La Hora Exacta. Calling themselves a collective, the group is certainly liquid and wide in their collaboration, featuring a range of musical idioms and instruments that’s frankly impressive. From spoken words, female and male vocals, to cathartic soundscapes, passing through compact and fierce post-punk pieces: there’s something for everyone in it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, La Hora Exacta explain: “The work, although personal, is also generic with the idea that each person can understand it in their own way, based on their own experiences. The work is not limited to a specific genre or specific style, it experiments with and blends different styles, according to the emotions we want to express at that moment, like life itself; and that’s why we call it a ‘book of life’.”
