Kyle Richardson: “Audiences crave authenticity from the artists they listen to”

Emerging from Canada, Kyle Richardson has recently unveiled his latest effort, a stunning and relatable pop effort titled ‘Anything’. Showcasing his rich and meaningful songwriting style, Richardson embarks on an exploration of relationship dynamics, particularly highlighting how simple acts of kindness can often make all the difference.

Built over a luscious and modern production, courtesy of Grammy-nominated producer Jeff Dawson, ‘Anything’ features Richardson’s rich and expressive vocals, capable of immense nuances while still retaining their expressivity. An outstanding effort by the talented Canadian.

Intrigued by the project and the record, we caught up with Richardson to find out more about his artistry and future goals… interview below!

Hey Kyle, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?

Hey! I’m great thanks, thank you for having me. My name is Kyle Richardson, I’m an LGBTQIA+ pop music recording artist based out of Vancouver, Canada, and I’m excited to be releasing my first-ever album “Louder Than Words” later this year!

Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?

I started singing and performing music when I was in school, but I became more drawn to songwriting after graduating high school and realizing I had a knack for songwriting. I really wanted to start writing and recording my songs, but wasn’t sure how to go about it. After recording some demos, I ended up coming to Vancouver to record with Jeff Dawson, and I knew that this was where I needed to be!

Pride month just went by; in a world where allyship is often a mere statement of goodwill, do you feel the music industry is doing enough to elevate LGBTQIA+ artists?

I think there is always progress to be made, but I feel that now more than ever, audiences crave authenticity from the artists they listen to, so it’s easier now than ever to stay true to yourself.

You recently released a slick and emotional pop gem, ‘Anything’. We appreciate your ability to craft such catchy and empowering pop material. How did the track come about?

This track was one I wrote quite a while ago, and I sat on the demo for a long time until I was finally recording my debut album… and realized this song would fit perfectly on it. I wrote this song alone before ever moving to Vancouver, and it still resonates emotionally and melodically for me, and upon showing the demo to Jeff, he was so excited to get to work on the song!

‘Anything’ is taken from your upcoming album ‘Louder Than Words’ – what can we expect from it?

“Louder Than Words” is a really exciting project for me, I got to take time to make sure I love all the songs, and it’s a great mix of material… There are some modern pop/rock sounds, some more straight up pop, some soulful piano-led ballads, and some songs with a bit of a nostalgic/throwback vibe. It’s a great mix and I’m so excited to get it all out there!

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

I like doing both, but these days I prefer writing with a team more often. Generally, I’ll write a bunch of ideas, like a specific lyrical idea, or a verse or part of a chorus… and I’ll take some ideas to show the people I’m writing with and if something clicks, we will work on that.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

The past couple of years have been challenging because I anticipated having this album out a lot earlier. I ended up taking time to just get EVERY aspect in order, from all the visuals and artwork, to the website, to the music videos for all the singles, even an entire acoustic version of the full album. I decided I wanted to get everything done ahead of time so I could plan out the whole year of releases and have nothing holding me back or delaying any aspect of the process!

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

After this single and video for “Anything,” I still have another single/video to release alongside the album release, and another video to drop sometime following the album! And like I previously mentioned, I have recorded acoustic versions of every song on the album and I’m super excited to be able to drop those after the full album comes out as well! I’m looking forward to starting up the writing process again and seeing what the future holds for next year as well!
