We are happy to welcome Kwun back on our pages: the London-based artist first appeared on our publication with ‘Ancient Ageless & True’, when we proudly declared: “we couldn’t overlook a certain authenticity, a rather hidden fragility balancing perfectly against the soothing and reflective nature of the Country and Folk sonic matter.” Now, the creative visionary returns with his latest effort, and it’s another triumph. ‘Happiness, Part 2’ follows the same lyrical introspection, while exploring slightly different sonic references.
Leaving behind Folk formulas, Kwun turns his attention to a more quirky, electro-pop environment, laying his evocative, warm vocals on a bed of light drum machines and bright, nostalgic synthetisers. The single release features two versions of the track, one being the modern, sung version mentioned above, and the other one – called ‘The Frost Edition’ taking the shape of an elegant orchestral arrangement, really showcasing the piece in an entirely different light.
An audio-visual experience, ‘Happiness, Part 2’ features collaborations with orchestrator Jonas Petersen (Hans Zimmer) and mix engineer Sam Wheat (Pharrell Williams, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse) as well as international sound healer Yantara Jiro (Gregg Braden) and renowned creative artist Dianne Harris (Coldcut, Future Sound of London).
Explaining how the record was conceived in direct response to vivid meditation sessions, Kwun explains: “After the meditations, I felt a heightened sense of clarity which connected me to this natural state of happiness and joy – which is what this song is a direct expression of.”
