The keen reader will gladly remember Kurst, a hip-hop talent from Toronto featured on our pages not long ago. His work was pretty remarkable, managing to fit in his track as many Disney references as possible. Now, he sees to do it all again: ‘Action’, Kurst’s latest effort, is packed with lyrical references to 37 popular action movies and their main stars, offering a high-octane thrill ride for any hip-hop enthusiast.
The record is pretty minimal, when it comes to its arrangement. Focusing on a simple beat and lo-fi, textured melodic matter, it provides the perfect environment for the Canadian talent’s intense and evocative vocals, really delivering every line with pathos and dramatic intention. Kurst’s rhymes come at you like a flurry of punches, hitting hard and fast with each word. His flow is impeccable, with every syllable carefully crafted to fit seamlessly into the beat.
Describing the inspiration behind ‘Action’, the hip-hop newcomer explains: “it’s a song that speaks about taking “action” while expressing my hunger to achieve success, and illustrating the mindset it takes to get there. I will be working on a Marvel theme in the near future.”
