Who could have predicted the soulful sonic concoctions that would blossom when musicians and University of Georgia students Chris Dickson, Wes Bacastow, and Jimmy Riemer crossed paths?
Coming together under the name KOBANOVA to play music together in 2019 before slowly and steadily settling into the fringes of classic southern rock musicality, the group who have been maturing and exploring their craft deliver ‘The Hunt,’ the first track to be taken from their debut EP For Better or Worse.
Led by a mellow melody that floats over punchy rhythms and Riemer’s feather-light vocals, the track unveils how the group have grown taking us through a smooth blend of Bacastow’s vibrant guitars with Dickson’s tightly woven pianos alongside the new, funky infusions of Sam McIntire basslines and Ripken Walker’s strong drum beats.
Showcasing a rich folk-rock instrumentation tinged with an easy southern twang, the track wraps around us with a passionate yet pleasing vibe, striking the balance between the group’s penchant for thoughtful storytelling and a soundscape that manages to be upbeat and delicate all at once.
