Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Linus Landucci is the brains behind Kiss Hello, and on his brand new album ‘Feelings Will Follow’, he teams up with Matt Caillouet, who he met on Craigslist. “We shared an affinity for Talk Talk, Prefab Sprout, MGMT’s messier work, unconventional production styles, and a constant willingness to experiment,” says Landucci. The result is Kiss Hello’s third album, a record they’ve labelled as “collage pop” due to their rather unique writing and collaboration process. The album itself is wonderfully experimental and inventive, a rich and exciting tapestry of sounds as the two go where the music takes them regardless of current trends.
The album’s opener ‘Death by Misadventure’ sets the scene perfectly. A dark and gritty little number with Simon Gallup-esque basslines, intricate guitar work, and Linus’ captivating vocals. It’s the perfect start! ‘Spoil the Silence’ follows with a messy yet intriguing intro before the tune turns into an upbeat and almost psychedelic adventure. It’s the perfect showcase of just what Kiss Hello is all about.
Other standout tracks on the album were ‘Loneliness’, ’10 West’, and the closer ‘Lovers’. In truth though, ‘Feelings Will Follow’ deserves an entire run-through. It needs to be experienced as a whole. It’s a cracking album from a seriously gifted artist, and I can’t wait to hear more from Kiss Hello!
