When approaching ‘Stand Back In’, the listener will be aware of the classic nature of the sonic material. Traditional indie tropes, already-heard riffing action… but it works well, it somehow becomes an almost welcome feature, as if Kingfisher – the band behind the track – were able to repackage an entire genre, offering it up for every nostalgic lover out there. Indeed, ‘Stand Back In’ feels fresh and doesn’t tire the ear, a sign that the Swedish outfit is up to something good.
Emerging from Uppsala, the trio boast a strong international flair, with two members originating from Italy and Colombia. Perhaps, it is their various cultural references that allow the group to keep such a hypnotising outlook on their music.
Recorded by Jakob Grundtman, ‘Stand Back In’ will jump to the attention of the listeners also for its quirky artwork, featuring an endangered animal species of South America: the Golden Poison Frog. This goes in line with their vision to enhance wildlife protection, biodiversity and environmental awareness. Speaking about the writing process behind the record, Kingfisher explains: “Stand Back In” is the climax of four years of music, the summit of a journey. Written in 10 minutes, it is a guitar riff born 10 years ago distilled by a drum groove as old as humanity. The song was there, waiting for us, using us as vessels, expecting to be heard.”
