Kimaya Diggs Reflects and Overcome Life’s Challenges in ‘Quincy’

For many, music is a welcome refuge in difficult times. For artists, it becomes a welcome expressive tool, an outlet for processing pain and finding some solace. Take for instance Kimaya Diggs: when confronted with grief and personal challenges, she took it up with her artistry, braving the storm in order to pen a wonderful record.

‘Quincy’ is the result of those tumultuous days, now forever consigned to history – and to us, the listeners. Faced with a serious vocal injury, the illness and passing of her mother, the death of a close friend, and the loss of her beloved dog, Diggs managed to reverse it all into meaningful material, writing songs that feel personal yet very relatable.

Sonically, we are onto eclectic territories, with the American talent encompassing a wide range of influences: from the orchestral jazz of ‘I Thought You’d Choose Me’ – one of the best tunes in the record, in our opinion – to the RnB and Soul vibes of ‘Bloom’, passing through the neo-soul flavouring of ‘But I Do’.

There’s something for everyone in this album, showcasing Kimaya Diggs’ masterful musicianship, especially through her soothing, soulful yet evocative vocal tone. Her stunning vocals are the perfect accompaniment to the emotional range of ‘Quincy’, effortlessly conveying both the pain and joy of life’s journey.
