Kepa Lehtinen’s Instrumental Album ‘In The Heart Of Winter’ is Superb

Jeremy Bregman

We are proud to adopt a multi-genre approach here at Mesmerized. If the music is good, we feel a responsibility to share it with you, our loving audience. On that note, please welcome Kepa Lehtinen, an acclaimed Finnish film and television composer. On the first of this month, Lehtinen unveiled his brand new album ‘In The Heart Of Winter’, featuring seven exquisite tracks that see the musician unleashing his individual artistic freedom. ‘In The Heart of Winter, Pt. 1’ and ‘Pt. 2’ get things underway, with minimalistic and eerie piano setting an early tone. Lehtinen’s love for the theremin also doesn’t go unnoticed, as he creates lush, graceful, and ethereal soundscapes.

“Winter is a dark season in Finland. It’s also the state of mind in which I’ve written my best compositions,” says Kepa. “Sadness isn’t bad if you can draw fuel from it”. ‘Waltz For The Sleeping Helsinki’ is song number four on the album and, again, has a dark and celestial vibe to it. It also features Kepa’s brother Ari on the double bass and, in about one week, has received over 183,000 plays on Spotify!

The remaining songs are each as beautiful and haunting as the abovementioned ones. Lehtinen’s forward-thinking music is just exceptional, and I can’t wait to hear more from him!
