Kepa Lehtinen is an acclaimed Finnish film and television composer who stole our collective hearts last year with the release of his lush seven-track album ‘In The Heart Of Winter’. It was a record that became my enduring companion and kept me company for quite some time. I’m now over the moon to be able to introduce you to ‘Sade’, the artist’s brand new single that maintains the signature haunting beauty of all his compositions.
Written for piano, double bass, and Kepa’s instrument of choice the theremin, ‘Sade’ is an ethereal and conservative piece that only lasts a little over two minutes. Its brevity, however, is my only complaint. Emotional, resonant, and mellifluous, the tune was inspired by the perpetual rain and darkness that blankets Finland during autumn. Flawlessly capturing the seasonal ambience, ‘Sade’ is further proof of Lehtinen’s pure and unfiltered genius.
I’ve always had a love for minimalist piano work, and it’s still a dream of mine to see someone like Philip Glass or Ludovico Einaudi in a live setting. With each new release, Kepa Lehtinen is becoming a name that I am eager to add to that list! A true virtuoso in every sense of the word!
