She’s Kelsie Kimberlin: a regular face on our publication, the Ukrainian/American songstress is the queen of meaningful anthems and hard-hitting lyricism, often drenched in poignancy and social relevance. ‘The Drawer’ is the perfect evidence of that; Kimberlin’s latest EP, it collects some of the project’s latest singles (such as ‘Parking Lot’ and ‘Twinkle’) together with a selection of brand new tunes; all massive and melodious, in true Kelsie’s style.
Built on an eclectic base of contemporary synth-pop, often quite ethereal and vibrant, ‘The Drawer’ shifts a few gears in its tracklist. From the fast-paced and punchy melancholic pop banger ‘Fatal Attraction’, to the bubbly and emotional territories of ‘Meet Me Anywhere’, passing through ballad-like jewels such as ‘Recovery’.
That very same song also features deep and personal lyricism, celebrating the support Kimberlin received in her younger years. As she sings: “Apologies, for all those who I hurt in my life…I want to say thank you to all my friends and family, thank you for believing in me when I did not believe in me.”
