In the past few months, we got to know Kelsie Kimberlin, learning to appreciate her as the nuanced, informed and wise artist she is. Her artistic output manifests not only through
music but also through visual art. The young talent loves music videos as a medium where she can delve into her lyricism, making the storyline more enticing and engaging for the listener.
Following up from latest effort ‘Spoof I Wonder’, in support of Ukraine, Kimberlin now returns with ‘Road Trip’, a mellow, poignant and nostalgic gem that feels as cinematic as it could be. Over a modern electronic beat, Kelsie’s evocative vocals tell a tale of family challenges and dark truths.
As Kimberlin explains: “Road Trip’ is my song about reaching a breaking point after discovering a terrible family truth. The refrain of the song is about me jumping in the car and just driving away for a long, long time. In the video, set in the 1950s, I get into a red 1956 Ford Thunderbird convertible and head on down the road without looking back. Many people have felt the urge to just say, ‘to hell with this’ and want to find the courage to leave a toxic situation, so I am hopeful that the song and video will resonate with everyone on some level.”
