The keen reader will be very familiar with Kelsie Kimberlin, US-based Ukrainian artist with a very committed drive towards helping her home country through art and music. As we previously declared: “the talented songstress has been focusing on telling the story of the many heroes fighting in the conflict, using her art as an elegant and impactful vehicle.” We stand by our words; happy to be sharing Kimberlin’s latest effort, we present to you ‘Turn Back’, the latest episode in her trilogy of videos she filmed in Ukraine in August 2023.
Sonically, we are treated to a slow-paced, soothing ballad, incredibly expressive and emotional. Built on acoustic pop flavourings, the track champions warm pianos and atmospheric textures, providing the perfect background for Kelsie’s nostalgic and poignant vocals. Visually, the footage contained in ‘Turn Back’ showcases military rubbles and empowering imagery, extending an invitation to all Ukrainians to come back home.
As she explains: “Turn Back is a plea for those millions of refugees who left Ukraine after the war began to come back home to help Ukraine rebuild.”
