Kelsey Blackstone Hits The Spot with Bold Rendition of ‘505’

Kelsey Blackstone manages to make pop music fun and inspiring again. Blending eclecticism with catchiness, the Boston-based songstress pushes the sonic boundaries just a little, while mastering her songwriting efforts. The result is material that’s stimulating, engaging and kaleidoscopic, while lyrically relatable and relevant. Take for instance ‘505’, Blackstone’s latest effort. Pivoting Arctic Monkeys’ classic indie anthem, the American creative explores a brand new livery for the track, one that’s quirky, charming and energetic, all at once.

A truly human-powered instrumental leaves way to saxophones, electric pianos and soul-flavoured drums, further descending into polite distortions and spacious reverbs. In fact, it all could be described as a pop meet ska meet indie conglomerate, although that would be just a way to reiterate how Kelsey Blackstone is a musical genius.

Well, perhaps not on par with Beethoven, but hear us out: she’s bold and daring, fully in control of her artistry. ‘505’ might be a cover, but it sounds as if it could be Blackstone’s own discography. From her evocative, energetic and frankly perfect vocals, to the genius arranging, everything screams talent and dedication, two elements that are greatly found in Kelsey’s musical journey.
