Kallai Unveil Hazy Eponymous Debut EP

It wasn’t long ago that we were writing about Kallai. The Portland-based alt-rock outfit shares a decisively eclectic artistic formula, one that benefits from nuanced and spacious guitar riffs and veiled electronic textures. Writing about ‘Palisades’ and the band’s upcoming EP, we proudly declared: “It promises to solidify the act as one of the most exciting new groups on the scene, and we cannot wait to hear it!”.

We stand by our words: Kallai have a highly hypnotising sonic identity, one that will appeal equally to solid rock and shoegaze fans. The band’s EP – ’Kallai’ is now out, and we can truly appreciate the depth of their work. Past singles ‘Always/Never’ and the aforementioned ‘Palisades’ open the record with their satisfying dark and mysterious aura, packed with reverbs and hazy vocals.

‘Dig’ is the punchiest and fiercest episode on the EP, showcasing a slightly different side of the American outfit. It’s here that we can draw a satisfying comparison with the likes of Drop Ninetees. ‘Another World’ doubles down on ethereal vocal matter, delivered by the group’s lead female vocals. Did anyone say Cocteau Twins?

A stunning record!! Recommended. Discover ‘Kallai’ EP on Spotify:
