When I read Kairvina‘s music being described as “inspired by Elliott Smith’s sensitivity and Jeff Buckley’s enigma”, I knew I had to hear it straight away. ‘Pirates’ is the brand new single from the Mumbai-based alternative singer/songwriter, and it’s a soft and delicate tune that is, at its core, about liberation and acceptance. It’s a cleansing and freeing journey that makes your trouble disappear, if only for a little over three minutes. Kairvina’s ethereal and dreamy vocals float over a subdued and soulful soundscape, all culminating in a song that is beautifully pure and profoundly honest.
“‘Pirates’ is about letting go, finding friends inside of loneliness, and accepting the bitterest parts about ourselves, but knowing that’s not who we are,” says the musician. Her message of acceptance and self-love, especially in today’s times, is vitally important. Kairvina reminds us that it’s OK to be vulnerable, and that true strength comes from accepting our true selves.
I’ve fallen pretty hard for ‘Pirates’. It’s just such a charming track, and Kairvina is a wonderful storyteller. It’s been said that the tune is the first step into the kind of stories the artist wants to share going forward. That’s a seriously exciting prospect!
