An incredibly luscious and vibrant piece, ‘Fragments.’ is both sonically alluring and lyrically meaningful, allowing the listeners to fully familiarise themselves with Kaia Laurielle’s elegant artistic universe. Built over crepuscular R&B rhythms, intimate textures and a sea of vocal harmonies, the track sees the London-based songstress embark on a celebration of black love, a theme that she’s been researching and championing for a while now.
Seeking to empower the black community in reclaiming healthy intimacy, self-love and mutual respect, Laurielle teamed up with fellow creatives Buyeza and Karim Kamar, lending their production and piano skills, respectively. Already discovered by BBC Introducing, it’s clear that Kaia is on a journey upwards, one that’s relatable and relevant, but more importantly incredibly authentic.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, she explains: “I wanted Fragments to reflect the feeling of uncertainty and vulnerability you get when you pursue a love interest who isn’t right for you but you persist to seek comfort from them. Although things may feel okay in moments we should listen to our gut and not ignore all the red flags.”
