After taking a one-year break from music, Berlin-based singer/songwriter and guitarist Kai Mayu makes a triumphant return with his upbeat and infectious new single ‘Cigarettes’. A classic indie-rock gem that stays in your head long after it’s over, it’s a tune that deals with unhealthy relationships and the joy of liberation when leaving one behind. “Let this song be either a tool to heal you and or start your new journey with a smile on your face,” says Kai.
With a somewhat unconventional 7/8 time signature, ‘Cigarettes’ showcases Mayu’s willingness to get experimental and innovative with his songwriting. It gives the track a unique edge, something that’s beginning to feel more and more necessary in today’s generic and oversaturated musical environment.
Influenced by artists and acts like John Mayer, Tim Atlas, Jude Smith, Los Mesoneros, and Majid Jordan, Kai Mayu is bringing a fresh and exciting sound to the fore.
