June Rosewell Shares Double Single ‘Glass/Cosmos’

We loved listening to ‘Glass/Cosmos’. Built over modern indie sleaze stylings, the double single offers an eclectic view over Rosewell’s artistry. The result is absolutely glorious, showcasing the work of a talented newcomer with a bright future ahead of her. ‘Glass’ is certainly the most conventional offering. Sonically, polite drums and fuzzy guitars provide a fitting background for June’s fragile and charming vocals. The way they are mixed gives Rosewell a rather otherworldly, yet intimate quality, as if she were to casually tell a story to a friend.

‘Cosmos’ is instead more nuanced. Taking the intensity down, the track focuses on textures and acoustic guitars, further highlighting the poignancy and relatability of the Nashville-based songstress. It’s here that we can admire veiled folk influences, especially in the way vocals are delivered.

Delving into the lyricism behind the songs, Rosewell explains: “Upon reflection, I realize that ‘Glass’ is about both fear and the search for acceptance – and the fear involved when you can’t find that acceptance. ‘Cosmos’ is a love song, jointly inspired by space and my geology class last year. I was drawn to the idea of love and hope as being a movement in line with the movement of tectonic plates and planetary orbits, and sometimes as destructive.”
