JSDavani Shares Experimental Record ‘Sam Y Nona’

Not long ago, we were writing about an interesting experimental record by JSDavani, American sonic explorer. Reviewing ‘imaginary vowels’, we proudly declared: “One must be ready to embrace his cathartic artistic journey, a passionate jump into pure, unfiltered personal expression”. We stand by our words, being especially true today in the face of Davani’s latest effort, an eclectic album titled ‘Sam Y Nona’.

First off, a pattern is starting to emerge. JS is dedicated, apparently, to finding the most leftfield and unique sonic combinations out there. He doesn’t follow the beaten path; instead, he creates his own genre, his own formulas. It’s working well we’d say: ‘Sam Y Nona’ is yet again a showcase of the project’s creative qualities.

While drenched in electronic soundscapes and spacious reverbs, the record finds time to add a prevalent vocal element, often mangled and pitched up or down. Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, Davani explains: “This project builds off of everything that came before it in a refreshing and inspired way, in the same way it builds off a variety of different inspirations to create a unique sound that isn’t being made by anyone, at the moment. In the same breath, I’m also aware that the exact same variables that make it special, also might make it not for everyone…”
