Debuting with ‘Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes’, Joyful Forfeit makes a strong statement, showcasing a refined and nuanced post-rock sound bordering shoegaze, indie tones and emo sensibilities. In fact, it might be one of the best sonic formulas we have heard lately. The track is nearly flawless: a modern production leaves room for spacious guitars and clean tones, while Joyful Forfeit’s light and expressive vocals drive the track forward, connecting with the listeners on a deeper level.
Stylistically, one might find traces of Death Cab For Cutie, Explosions In The Sky, The National, Slowdive, and Radiohead, all declined into a personal and unique recipe. The results are wonderful, propping up Joyful Forfeit for a bright and glorious career. A solo project created by musician and songwriter Kody Stieve in the Fall of 2022, Joyful Forfeit aims to craft honest and personal material. A longer release is expected later this year.
