If there’s one thing you should associate with Joyce Tratnyek, is her ability to create ethereal, nostalgic walls of sonic matters, emotional black holes which will suck the listeners into their own alternative dimension. By blending electronica, shoegaze and post-rock, the Portland native creates something highly authentic and unique, a personal sound that’s making her stand out as one of the most exciting newcomers.
Writing about Tratnyek’s previous single, we proudly declared: “bone-chilling, although in a comforting, exciting way. You see, there is this strong shoegaze element in Tratnyek’s music: every sound has its dedicated poignancy, and every note is drenched in heavy effects.”
Earlier this week, the talented American returned with a crucial and heartfelt episode in her artistic saga. ‘The Cold Will Last Forever’ was the song she wrote as a goodbye gift when attempting to take her own life, exactly a year ago. Due to the complex and painful nature of its content, we are honoured that Tratnyek shared the song with us. We are also proud of a clearly talented human being, navigating through life one foot at a time, trying to make sense of the current madness – like all of us.
Joyce has a powerful ally up her sleeve: music and art. ‘The Cold Will Last Forever’ is a further sign of a career slowly shaping up, with listeners taking note.
