Joyce Martens began her musical career during the COVID-19 pandemic and hasn’t looked back since. Hailing from The Netherlands, her most recent release is a tune called ‘Perfect’, written while her eleven-year-old daughter was in hospital. “The right time will never come,” she says. “The time is now”! Joyce realised that the future is uncertain and nobody knows what is ahead of them, and the outcome is one of the most timeless and beautiful tracks I’ve come across all year.
‘Perfect’ begins with a delicate and entrancing acoustic guitar, before Marterns’ angelic vocals make their introduction. The song slowly builds itself up into an uplifting and upbeat anthem, as hints of The Cranberries, Coldplay, and Passenger course through its veins. Described by some as “indie-pop with a little slice of folk,” it’s a tune that has a little something for everyone in it!
The infectious energy of ‘Perfect’ is further enhanced by the tune’s relatable lyrics as they capture the very essence of embracing the present moment. Joyce is living proof that it is never too late to follow your dreams and pursue your goals, and that feels like a message we could all use once in a while! We can’t wait to hear more from this talented musician!
