In a way, the Los Angeles resident doesn’t just belong to a genre; rather, he shifts from reference to reference, sculpting a highly personal and charming style that balances over hip-hop, soul and folk, ultimately providing the perfect setting for Jōviky’s luscious and quirky vocals.
Championing a certainly productive 2023, Jōviky presents ‘Good Dayz’, his latest effort. In it, the listeners will feel overwhelmed by the immensely soulful and ethereal track. Boasting broken-beats and light percussions, the production seems to take a page out of the best old-school hip-hop, including jazz-flavoured samples and vocal harmonies into a whole cohesive package, perfectly adapting to Jōviky’s evocative vocals, managing to stay light, almost floating on top of the instrumental.
Describing the inspiration behind ‘Good Dayz’, Jōviky explains: “Good Dayz’ is inspired by a conversation I had with an elderly gentleman at the airport. I was having a bad day and in this fleeting moment, he let me know that ‘every day is a good day because you woke up today.’ That simple message really struck me as being true but also a lovely way to live your life. I’ve been trying to model my outlook on life after this expression.”
