Posing interesting questions on identity and belonging, British creative Joshu seeks to reconcile his perception of what ‘being at home’ really means, tracing a fine line to his Caribbean roots. Born in England, the talented troubadour was then brought up in Antigua & Barbuda. Such eclectic upbringings tenderly inform his artistic output, now crystallized into a cathartic, gentle and elegant brand of hazy folk matter, as showcased in his latest EP ‘way back home’.
Following up on his previous single ‘holding on’ (included in the EP), Joshu continues sharing the fruits of a post-breakup journey through the Atlantic, together with countless Caribbean songwriting sessions. Striving to connect to the Antiguan island, the talented musician packs ‘way back home’ with five wonderful pieces, all centred around the constant search for authenticity and identity.
It’s not all introspection though, as Joshu eloquently explains: “This record is an acknowledgement of the grief that comes with disconnection from place and nature. But it’s also a call to reclaim our role as rational stewards of the natural world and to reimagine what it means to truly belong.”
