As we get deeper into the year, albums are starting to get announced. One that stands out is certainly ‘Pre-Code Hollywood’, the upcoming long-length release by New Zealand showman Jonathan Bree. Expected on April 14th, we are lucky enough to get a taste of it through a wonderful single, the haunting and epic title track ‘Pre-Code Hollywood’. In it, the listener will be instantly mesmerized by Bree’s hypnotising vocals, boasting a strong baritone character and infinite charm. If the record is anything to go by, we are in for a treat!
Celebrated as Bree’s most exciting and pop-forward work to date, ‘Pre-Code Hollywood’ enlists the help of musical legend Nile Rodgers, lending his production and guitar skills to the track. The accompanying video is set in the late 1970s, with a fictional ‘Top of the Pops’-style live TV show.
Bree’s deep baritone and cinematic musical arrangements draw inspiration from classic artists like Lee Hazlewood and Serge Gainsbourg, and his latest entry in a line of impressive solo work is even more striking and fully realised than ever. He will also be touring throughout Europe in April and May.
