Since debuting at the end of last year with ‘Reaper’, California-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Torello has kept himself rather busy. He’s put out three tunes already this year, and his most recent, ‘Civil War’, has completely blown us away. With his signature soothing vocals, Jon’s latest offering shares similar themes to his previous release ‘Janus’, as he explores the inner civil war that we all fight against ourselves. “It offers the possibility that by accepting the best and worst in each of us, it can allow for an acceptance of the best and worst in others,” says Torello. “To me, that is uncharted territory worth exploring”.
Laidback and inviting, ‘Civil War’ immerses the listener in a tranquil yet profound contemplation of inner conflicts. Folky and richly layered, it’s a track that gets more intricate and engrossing with each listen, a sign that there is more to Jon’s music and sound than immediately meets the eye.
Drawing on inspiration from the likes of Nick Drake, Ray LaMontagne, Pink Floyd, Hans Zimmer, Nine Inch Nails, and Neil Young, it’s this wonderfully eclectic palette of influences that gives Torello such a unique and distinctive sound.
