John Leslie Hulcombe Gifts Us An Instrumental Jewel, ‘Cosmic Echoes’

Emerging from the mountainous regions around Brisbane, Australia, John Leslie Hulcombe is an artist whose musical output has proven time and time again to be classy, meaningful and of high quality. His releases feature world-class musicians, providing the perfect sonic backdrop for Hulcombe’s soft, evocative lyricism, and his unique vocal tone. Originally debuting in 2020, the project has been fairly productive, focusing on a folk-rock aesthetic that feels contemporary, yet firmly rooted in past influences. How could it not be that way? John Leslie has been joined by some legendary musicians, including Peter Koppes (from The Church) and Jackie James Barnes (son of Jimmy Barnes).

That’s the premise ‘Sanctuary’ was created on; a kaleidoscopic, sweet-sounding instrumental gently caresses Hulcombe’s melodies, resulting in an irresistible ballad, capable of offering solace to its listeners. It was only later that the talented Aussie realised the wonderful piece they had composed in the process. It is thanks to that realization that today we get to enjoy ‘Cosmic Echoes’, the project’s latest release and an instrumental version of ‘Sanctuary’, re-arranged and remixed to enhance its sheer quality.

In it, you’ll be able to hear Koppes’ refined, artistic guitar playing, driving the track forward with clean tones and quirky solos, soon joined by space-like keys and punchy drums. It really is a triumph: to be able to witness such high-level musicianship and production quality, makes us feel very lucky. Recommended!
