John Carcer Returns with Intense and Gloomy Record ‘erotica’

You are not ready for John Carcer. Trust us, you are not. The British creative navigates obscure, misty and gloomy musical territories, building his quirky and unique character on horrorcore arrangements and shoegaze tones, a formula that leaves ample space for punchy electronica and screamy vocals. The result is a stream of records that feel experimental and extremely fringe – as it should be.

Carcer is a pioneer, a nuanced artist packing his compositions with meaning and intent. Nothing is casual or random in such a peculiar universe; choices and actions are voluntary, planned and executed well. Take ‘erotica’, for instance. Moving at a relatively slow pace, the track is a blend of indie, shoegaze and emo stylings, further crowned and enriched by John’s dystopic and creepy vocals.

Delving into the lyricism behind ‘erotica’, the Wakefield-based artist explains: “The premise of the song is about dying for attention, It’s morbid but it’s something that happens every day and I wanna spread awareness as the same unfortunate fate happened to my best friend”. An intense music video is also offered, a visual counterpart perfectly fitting the overall songwriting.
